Contractor Licensing in North Dakota

TradeRequirement
ElectricalNorth Dakota requires electrical contractor license through ND State Electrical Board. Must pass business and law exam plus electrical theory exam. Master electrician license requires 8,000 hours experience and passing state exam. Journeyman requires 4-year apprenticeship or equivalent experience. All licenses renewed annually by December 31st.
General ContractingNorth Dakota requires a General Contractor License for projects over $4,000. Must pass state exam, provide financial statements, carry required insurance, and post surety bond. Class A (unlimited), Class B (up to $300,000), or Class C (up to $50,000) licenses available. Renewal required every 2 years with continuing education.
HVACNorth Dakota requires HVAC contractors to hold a Mechanical Contractor License through the State Plumbing Board. Must pass written examination, provide proof of 4 years experience or equivalent education, carry required insurance, and pay $150 license fee. Renewal required every 2 years with continuing education requirements.
